Beyond a Casual Workshop: Two Full Days of Real, Immersive Craftsmanship
— Christen D.
My husband surprised me with a class at AK University as a gift, knowing how much I love working with my hands and learning new creative disciplines. Coming from an artistic and craft background, I was blown away by just how authentic, deep, and truly hands-on this experience is.
Unlike a typical group workshop or casual afternoon craft session, this is a dedicated, private one-on-one apprenticeship across two full, intensive days. Because it's one-on-one, Andreas was able to tailor the pacing directly to my comfort level with the shop machines—allowing us to dive right into the techniques without getting slowed down.
I walked into the shop having no real idea how a knife actually goes from raw bar stock to a finished blade. Going through every single phase of shaping, heat treatment, grinding, and handle construction demystified the entire process in the best way possible. It was incredible seeing the technical overlap with other crafts and walking out with an heirloom-grade tool I built from scratch.
I was already texting friends recommendations from my stool during class. If you're looking for a serious, deeply rewarding hands-on build—whether solo, as a couple, or for a milestone experience—AK University is unmatched.
