An In-Depth Creative Outlet: Demystifying the Art and Science of the Blade
— Grant B.
I was looking for a new creative outlet and started researching places nearby. Looking at what was offered in the area, the depth of instruction, the shop setup, and the value at AK University were completely above and beyond everything else. Making a knife felt like a raw, primal urge to build an essential tool with my own hands, and this was the place to do it.
The experience delivered exactly what I was hoping for. Andreas’s attention to detail is unmatched—every technical question was thoroughly accounted for, and his master-level expertise shows in every step of the process.
The biggest revelation for me was grinding the primary bevels. Before the class, I thought shaping an edge was just holding steel against a belt until it got sharp. Experiencing the actual geometry, reading the gaps, and executing the steady, incremental passes made me realize blade grinding is a true, intricate art form.
Whether you’re interested in hands-on craftsmanship, fine arts, or just want to challenge yourself to build something functional from raw bar stock, AK University is in a league of its own. I’d recommend it to anyone without hesitation.
